Rez HD on the xbox Live Arcade is a great buy for any fan of the old PS2 one, or a fan of these types of games, I'd say. I got it, and so far it's everything that I've expected and more.

Actually rez had a fairly long development cycle. It took several years to build (back before this was common for games)
The music and visuals are affected by how well the player is doing, at the time this sort of 'synesthesia' was groundbreaking and it was apparantly very difficult to pull off.

The entire game is just wireframes and a cursor. A lot of the things that cost a lot of time are avoided. Besides, it wasn't an insult, it was a comment on how with a good idea, you don't need to work so hard.
