No, Apartheid was evil. There were no universities for blacks in Namibia. The only profesions for blacks were primary school teachers and nursing. Permission was neeeded to travel inside the country. Movies showig blacks in good light were banned in Namibia.
Blacks could only address white as "master". Blacks were not allowed to own any land. Blacks were never allowed to vote. Black politicians were put injail, killed and disappeared. Blacks did not have a future under the Apartheid regime.

People forget that when Belefonte brought Makeba to New York, she triggered not only a musical revolution but a cultural one as well. African-Americans stopped straightening their hair and going natural. Stars such as Cicely Tyson and Nina Simone began wearing their hair natural and popularized the style they learned from Makeba. Eventhough to most blacks in America it was just a phase or fad, Makeba remained the "A Natural Woman" to the end. May she rest in peace.

I'm sorry I didn't get to see her perform. She was definitely the finest female black musician Africa has ever produced.
Adieu, good lady. R.I.P.

Amazing woman and amazing performer! I met Miriam Makeba when I was 12, in my native Cuba and was impressed immediately by her smile and her mesmerizing and energizing stage presence. Her death is a great loss to the world of true and genuine entertainment and to the different causes she fought so much for and to which she lent her voice, talent and passion.

Uhhhmmm... One thing isn't the "poverty and unjustice" in South Africa a LOT worse now? Sorry just asking. Not that I support what was just wish the dream had come true.
