Did this specific line-up recorded any LP together? I can't remember that much collaborations between Getz-Coltrane, anyway, I'm not that much into "remembering" line-ups or names...

Great clip and thank you for posting.
Sorry that last comment showed up on top, it should be a response to much earlier comment that I thought I was making a reply to.

Yeah, reading the comments on the jazz videos I can see how obsessed and judgemental the DARE-brainwashed younger generation is with the drug use of the musicians. Enjoy the music! Stop fixating on the drugs.

absolutey, well said by insightful people here. Trane looks to expand his horn in almost all directions, Getz masterfully weaves in and out of the harmonies like a breeze. and his tone is so fluid!

If you close your eyes and just listen you can hear there differant personalities. Getz more soft spoken Coltrain more center of attention. Well thats my oppinion.

Trane said himself that if he could sound like anybody than it would be Stan Getz..... Getz is a master of his Craft as well as Trane but still the way Getz goes through the lines are indescribable.... he is one of the Best ever lived

"is`i`jus`me`or`do`trane`and`getz`seem`a`little`unc omfortable??`wierd"
It's probably not just you...! However, these two men not only like each other, but also held great respect for one another. I think the venue was probably quite formal, which may account for the "uncomfortable" interpretation by some!

Absolutely astounding Trane solo. Better than So What? Impossible, of course, but my current favorite, nonetheless.

Stan Getz and Coltrane were an interesting match.

Man, I remember I was younger I used to think players like Desmond and Getz had a "wimpy" sound, I still prefer a sound like Cannonballs for the most part, and in my playing, but now I can really appreciate the other colors as legit. This piece is great because there's such difference in their sounds and playing styles when you hear both solos, but when they play together their sounds fit so well together like velchro, pb&j or whatever analogy you like =]

piano just appeals to me.
I really enjoy seeing him make it look easy.

You picked my faves to the tee. But, I also like Hank Mobley, Lucky Thompson. Getz looks horrified by Coltranes sheetsounds, but falls into the game to humor him. I wonder if Coltrane knows how to play "Polly Put The Kettle On". Acch. Too melodic and predictable.
