Wow... Clapton was great. But Mayer could have been better. He shook WAY to much during his solo. It looked like he was shivering.

I have seen Mayer Live. He came to Utah not to long ago. John has wanted to be blues, and even in his earlier stuff you can see traces of it, but now it comes out a lot stronger. I love the artists as individuals. I also love them together. If you close your eyes through the intire song, you feel the blues. You get into the music instead of who plays it a lot more. This is gorgeous.

How intimidating would it be to play alongside Eric Clapton!

Mayer may be the student, but he is learning QUICK!! I recently saw him in Wantagh, NY and the way he just adds new licks and new solos into songs on the spot is just amazing to me. I know that Clapton also did that and I am amazed by him as well, but I dont know man. Seeing JM on stage, as much as people don't like the poppy tunes he made, which I don't either, he is starting to become the blues player we came to expect from JM3. You have to see this kid play. He loses himself in the guitar.

KAILASA:
Wow... really? JM is more a pop and pretty boy??He may have gotten his start doing pop-like tunes, but if you look at Continuum it is almost all bluesy tunes. Also look at the John Mayer Trio. John is taking the audience that he got from his earlier stuff and introducing them to Blues and I for one have a ton of respect for him for that. If you listen to an interview you will see that his influences are all Blues... JM has wanted to be a blues guitarist since he picked up a guitar.

But what's up with that fucking Listerine banner? Crass commercialism. I remember when rock artists wouldn't have set foot on a stage with some corporate in-your-face ad plastered behind them. Very uncool.

Thornton:
This type of music isn't about your "Solo" anyhow. It is about the soul and feeling you put into it. You should just sit, and enjoy. They are amazing artists. Dont' bash on either. It's hypocritical anyway.

Siannan:
PEOPLE!! Eric is a legend. Mayer is the student. They come from two different era's to put what they have on the table. If you look it up they are friends. Now as to whom is better. John bows at the end. So everyone who says Mayer is better, what does that tell you? Now go look at 1:20 all the way to 1:35 or 1:40 or so. Eric let him do the solo. You can tell he puts his stamp of aproval so to speak on it. And you can't compare the two solo's THEY'RE TWO DIFFERENT SOLOS.

Kaylyn:
Folks Mayer will never EVER be clapton , Mayer is more the "new" clapton (more feeling and less notes than the cream and bluesbreakers era)than the old in the bluesbreakers era.I Think that Joe Bonamassa must be called for the new crossroads festival, he is the guy! Mayer is more a Pop and pretty guy than Bonamassa, a legend before his time like B.B King said , he still have a lot tallent to show

Leah:
You know people will never admit it though no matter how much better he is and will get it still wont even matter people wont give him credit even though he deserves it more than anyone
August 16th, 2008 | 13:57:02
Korbyn:
Hey man can you play like John Mayer? He's playin blues licks that a lot of blues musicians have never played before because they refuse to think outside of their little minor pentatonic box. And as for feeling, look at his face. If you watch a few more of his performances, you'll see that practically all of his music is feeling. Dont get me wrong, Clapton is god, but dont be dissin John Mayer. There's a reason Clapton invited Mayer to his Crossroads Festival.
