Composer of this song, Riccardo Cocciante is Italian, but his mother was French, he was born in Saigon then-french Indochine (now VietNam)and he had a career not only in Italy but also in France, singing in French (as a singer he was popular mostly in the eighties I think). Known as Richard Cocciante there. The lyricist, Luc Plamondon is French-Canadian so now you could argue if this song (and musical) is french, italian or maybe canadian. To me it's beautiful, hehehe.

Ah, no, look, I am Italian, I started studying the songs in Italian, then I listened to the ORIGINAL french version... I switched to it and I never went back! French is sweeter, more musical, more metrically correct... really no comparison to any other!
